Boilermaker Announces Start of 5K Training Program

May 2, 2008 (Utica, NY) - The Boilermaker Road Race is pleased to announce the start of its 5K training program, sponsored by New Balance and organized by the Utica Roadrunners. The program starts on Saturday, May 2nd at 7:30 a.m. at The Fitness Mill located at 587 Main Street, New York Mills.

"The goals of the Boilermaker training program are to promote the sport of running, introduce people to the sport of running, and to keep people motivated and focused on their goal of completing the Boilermaker 5K Run," said Linda Turner, Boilermaker training program director.

The cost of the program is $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, which includes the training program tee-shirts.

The training sessions are geared toward people who have a goal of completing the Boilermaker 5K Run, which is sponsored by Carbone Auto Group. Runners of all skill levels, including first time runners, are invited to participate. The first session begins with 15 minutes of walking. Each week, the walking time is increased and running intervals are added. During the first two weeks, speakers will discuss topics such as warming up and stretching, safety, proper shoes & clothing, injury prevention and cross training. After the first two weeks of training indoors on the track, the sessions take place outside.

Anyone interested in participating can register on site. Any questions about the 5K or 15K training programs should be directed to Linda Turner at 796-4870 or train2run15K@adelphia.net.

The Boilermaker Road Race is the premier event of the National Distance Running Hall of Fame’s annual Hall of Fame Weekend. The race consistently attracts elite runners from all over the world, including Olympians and world record holders, and features distance running’s most enthusiastic fans, as well as the sport’s best post-race party hosted at The F.X. Matt Brewing Company.
