Boilermaker Changes Course, Distance of Annual Walk
July 8, 2008 (Utica, NY) - The Boilermaker Road Race announces that the distance and course route of its annual walk event has changed this year to benefit walkers and encourage more participation.
The original 8K Walk will now become the 3 Mile Walk and take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 at the Masonic Care Community. The circuitous course will make its way through Proctor Park before returning to the Masonic Care grounds.
This Boilermaker event, sponsored by Wal-Mart, is a shorter distance and designed in such a way that everyone can participate, regardless of athletic ability. A post-walk celebration consisting of snacks and beverages will welcome walkers at the finish line.
"This is a wonderful event that everyone can enjoy, "said Marie Seiselmyer, event coordinator. "Even those who are not passionate runners will still have a chance to participate in the Boilermaker festivities. It also is a great compliment to the 5K and 15K races where runners can walk in preparation for their event."
Children under 12-years-old and those registered for the 5K and 15K may participate in the 3 Mile Walk for free. Others can register that morning from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for $15. For more information, contact Seiselmyer at (315) 732-2311.
The Boilermaker Road Race is the premier event of the National Distance Running Hall of Fame’s annual Hall of Fame Weekend. The race consistently attracts elite runners from all over the world, including Olympians and world record holders, and features distance running’s most enthusiastic fans, as well as the sport’s best post-race party hosted at The F.X. Matt Brewing Company.
