Boilermaker Announces National Anthem Contest Winners
June 25, 2008 (Utica, NY) - The Boilermaker Road Race announced the winners of the National Anthem Competition which was held on Saturday, June 8 at Utica College. Singers of all ages demonstrated their vocal skills in front of judges Bonnie Hibbard and Peter Loftus. The winning singers will perform at the various events during Boilermaker Week.
Jessica Lawrence, 24, of New York Mills won the top honors and will be singing at the Price Chopper Post-Race Party, taking place at the F.X. Matt Brewing Company following the 15K Race. Rachel Carroll, 16, of Utica will sing at the National Distance Running Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Jacob Perkins, 15, of Utica will be at the start of the Carbone 5K Run. Michelle Diskin, 18, of Whitesboro will sing at the NTB Bank Volunteer Party held on the grounds of the Masonic Care Community. Greg Roberts, 67, of Yorkville will sing at the Wal-Mart 3 Mile Walk. Zainen Abdelaal, 16, of Deerfield will sing the National Anthem at the Utica National Youth Run. Andrew Marshall, 35, of Utica, will sing at the start of the Bank of America Youth Olympics. Colleen O'Hara, 18, of Whitesboro will be singing during the award's ceremony of the Bank of America Youth Olympics.
"We had a great turnout this year," said Tim Reed, executive director of the Boilermaker. "This contest not only provides us with singers for our events but also gives local citizens a chance to showcase their talent." The Boilermaker Road Race has been holding this contest for over five years.
The Boilermaker Road Race is the premier event of the National Distance Running Hall of Fame’s annual Hall of Fame Weekend. The race consistently attracts elite runners from all over the world, including Olympians and world record holders, and features distance running’s most enthusiastic fans, as well as the sport’s best post-race party hosted at The F.X. Matt Brewing Company.
